The kids and I went to my parents' house for a week in early March. We celebrated Isabelle's 3rd birthday with a little family party too. I totally didn't plan this but Isabelle and Ethan ended up staying at Grandma and Grandpa's house for the first time ever by themselves - for a whole week! We got up there on Monday night and I left to come back Thursday night, leaving them here. I cried a little bit driving back by myself. It was so weird. I worked the weekend, then tried to get some stuff done around the house without having little feet following me everywhere. Sad to say, I didn't get much done but Daniel and I enjoyed the 'spring break' from the kids. We got massages, went out to eat, ate dinner in the living room, watched TV in peace, I slept in til 9:30 everyday (its the little things)....it was nice for a while but we missed them and were happy to have them back the following Thursday.
Isabelle got some cool birthday glasses from Aunt Becky. Avery strikes a pose. That girl cracks me up! Singing and blowing out candles. Check out that cake. It was a fun little experiment. I borrowed Angie's cake deorating stuff and practiced since I have to make a Strawberry Shortcake one for her party at home. I was dreading it but it actually turned out to be kind of fun. It was more work than I thought it would be...making the frosting, getting the right consistency, making it taste good and hoping it looked good....
I love how Avery is helping blow out the candles. There's the first cake I did...kind of boring so I had to experiment with the other colors of frosting.

Since I was playing around with cakes, I made this one for Ryan and Ashley. Their 20 week ultrasound was that week and they found out they were having a boy so I made them a blue cake. I wanted them to have the ultrasound tech put the gender in an envelope, then give it to me so I could make the cake either pink or blue. Then they could cut into it and find out what they were having but the didn't want to do that. So I made them a cake anyway and told them they could announce it to their friends by posting a pic of the inside of the cake.
Here's the cake I made for the party at home. Not too bad for my first character cake. But it took forever to do! Three and a half hours on this! Ridiculous.
My mom and the kids returned Thursday afternoon. Mom helped Daniel out Friday night when I went to work. Saturday morning was Isabelle's birthday and she was so happy to see her Strawberry Shortcake cake!
We went to the St Patrick's day parade downtown. The route was extended because it was on a Saturday and its been so nice out lately. TONS of people were out for it and Ethan just wanted to run around.
Since it was so crowded, Isabelle had to get up on my shoulders to see the floats.
The kids played outside together and we even did presents and cake and ice cream outside too.
